Top cloud storage providers (object and backup storage)

76 web hosting companies ranked by rating, review volume and listing quality.

Between them, the 44 best-ranked of these 76 web hosting companies cover IaaS (26), bare metal servers (9), VPS hosting (8) and web development (5). They also list work in Europe, North America, Asia and Latin America. 44 of them have written a profile you can read before you get in touch.

What to look for in cloud storage providers

The right provider depends on your workload, where your users are and what your team can run, not only on its place in this list. Before you shortlist, check:

  • Price per TB stored, and the charges that often matter more: egress (download), API requests and minimum storage periods
  • S3 compatibility, if your tools and backups expect the S3 API
  • Where the data is held, and whether you can pin it to a country or region
  • Immutability (object lock) and versioning, which protect backups from ransomware
  • Replication between regions, and what a full restore would cost and take

How to use this ranking

Use it to build a shortlist. Each profile lists the hosting types a provider sells, the countries it runs servers in and its prices as printed on its own site, with the date we read them. Test the two or three that fit before you move anything that matters.

How is this ranking of cloud storage providers worked out?

A position here is earned, never bought. It is worked out from what each listing documents and what has been verified about it: a complete, accurate profile, and the checks a provider has passed. Client reviews count where they exist, but they are still rare across this catalogue, so today the order comes mainly from documentation and verification. A top position means best-documented, not best for your workload.

Can a provider pay to move up?

No. Sponsored and Featured places are labelled and shown apart from the ranked list, and they never change a provider’s position in it. How rankings work
