Layoffs at software vendors, week to 2 October 2026: Oracle in California, Nutanix, Salesforce, PayPal, Synopsys and Expedia

2 October 2026 — Our Friday round-up of confirmed job cuts at software and IT vendors. Every entry below comes from a state layoff notice filed under the US WARN Act, which requires employers to give 60 days' notice of large layoffs; the figures are exactly as the states list them. Our earlier round-ups covered Workday, Microsoft and Blaize and F-Secure and Oracle's Seattle notice.

Not yet independently verified. The California figures were read from the state’s WARN report, and the Washington figure from its WARN list. Apart from Expedia, which Skift reported on 25 September, no company statement or independent report was checked, and none of the companies has said which teams are affected. We will update this when it can be confirmed, and remove this note.

The notices

  • Oracle, California: 441 roles from 13 November 2026. Three notices dated 14 September: 279 at 500 Oracle Parkway, Redwood City; 99 at 4230 Leonard Stocking Drive, Santa Clara; and 63 at the Pleasanton campus, 5815 Owens Drive. All are listed as permanent layoffs effective 13 November. This comes on top of the Seattle notice in our earlier item.
  • Nutanix, San Jose: 65 roles, effective 5 October 2026 (notice of 4 August). The cuts take effect on Monday.
  • Salesforce, San Francisco: 74 roles, effective 5 October 2026 (notice of 5 August), at 415 Mission Street.
  • PayPal, San Jose: 251 roles, effective 30 October 2026 (notice of 31 August).
  • Synopsys, Sunnyvale: 128 roles, effective 16 December 2026 (notice of 31 August). Synopsys makes the chip-design software used across the semiconductor industry.
  • Expedia Group, Seattle: 58 roles from 21 November 2026 (notice received 22 September). Skift reported that the cuts include technical roles and follow a simplification of the company's global finance structure.

Why customers should care

A layoff notice is not a sign that a product is in trouble, and large vendors restructure every year. But cuts land on real teams: account managers, support engineers, implementation consultants and product groups. Customers notice it months later as slower tickets, a new account manager, or a feature that quietly stops moving.

What to check with each vendor

  • Your named contacts: is your account manager, customer-success manager or technical account manager still in place?
  • Support commitments: are response times in your contract unchanged, and is the support team for your region affected?
  • Roadmap promises: features you were promised in writing during a purchase or renewal should be confirmed again.
  • Renewal timing: a renewal falling in the next two quarters is a good moment to ask these questions with leverage.
