Connectivity and IoT takeovers on 1 October 2026: Inseego completes its purchase of Nokia’s fixed wireless business, VEGA acquires akenza
1 October 2026 — Inseego, the US maker of 5G mobile and fixed wireless devices, completed its acquisition of Nokia's fixed wireless access (FWA) business on 1 October 2026. FWA equipment is the indoor and outdoor gateways and receivers that deliver broadband over a mobile network instead of a cable or fibre line. Operators sell it to homes and businesses, and many companies use it for branch sites and backup links. The agreement was signed on 30 April 2026.
Not yet independently verified. Both deals rest on the companies’ own filing and announcements; Nokia’s and VEGA’s own statements and independent reports were not read, and akenza states no price. We will update this when it can be confirmed, and remove this note.
What the filing says
According to Inseego's Form 8-K filed on 1 October 2026:
- Inseego acquired the FWA business's assets in exchange for 1,163,693 Inseego shares, warrants over further shares, and the assumption of certain liabilities of the business.
- Nokia invested $10 million in cash in Inseego for further shares and warrants, and becomes a shareholder.
- An amendment signed on 30 September adds a further $10 million payment from Nokia by 15 October 2026, to support interoperability engineering in the year after closing.
The cash figures and share numbers are the companies' own, as filed.
What changes for customers
- Supplier and support: operators and enterprises that bought Nokia FWA gateways and receivers now deal with Inseego for those products. Ask who handles warranty claims, returns and support cases from today, and through which contact points.
- Firmware and security updates: ask for the update roadmap and the support end dates for each Nokia FWA model you run. Equipment at the edge of the network needs a clear security-update commitment.
- Interoperability: Nokia's extra payment is tied to interoperability engineering, so ask how Inseego will keep the devices working with your operator's network and management systems.
- Contracts: check whether purchase, support and management-platform contracts have been assigned to Inseego, and on what terms.
VEGA acquires akenza
akenza, the Zurich-based IoT platform that turns sensor data into dashboards, alerts and integrations for industrial sites and smart buildings, announced on 1 October 2026 that it is "joining forces" with VEGA Grieshaber, the family-owned maker of level and pressure sensors from Schiltach, Germany. akenza says the two will build end-to-end IoT solutions and expand VEGA's industrial IoT offering over the coming months, and that it will keep growing its smart-building business. "For our current customers, nothing changes," it says: akenza "will keep operating under its own name, with the same team and the same roadmap". No price is stated.
For akenza customers: get that commitment confirmed in your contract, and ask whether the platform stays open to other manufacturers' sensors and networks, and whether your contract, data hosting and pricing are unchanged after the change of owner.
What to do
- List your Nokia FWA devices by model and firmware version.
- Get written answers from Inseego, or from the operator that supplied them, on support, updates and end-of-life dates.
- Review device-management access: if the devices are managed from a cloud portal, confirm who now operates it and where its data is held.
