Dayforce agrees to buy Ribbon, a Toronto AI job interviewer
23 October 2026: Dayforce, the HR, payroll and workforce software company based in Minneapolis and Toronto, has signed an agreement to acquire Ribbon AI, a Toronto start-up whose voice AI conducts first-round job interviews. Ribbon's technology will be built into a new Dayforce Agentic Recruiting product once the deal closes. Neither side has disclosed a price or a timetable.
Not yet independently verified. Neither company gives a price or an expected closing date; the customer and interview figures are Ribbon's own as Dayforce reports them. We will update this when it can be confirmed, and remove this note.
What Ribbon's interviewer does
Ribbon's system holds two-way spoken interviews with applicants at any hour. Starting from a job description, it can generate the questions and a scoring rubric from relevant past interviews, then scores candidates from the transcript. Dayforce says video and other built-in integrity checks "can detect unusual audio, gaze, and response-timing patterns", and that about 90% of Ribbon's customers use the recommended default configuration.
Beyond interviews, Ribbon searches an employer's existing talent pool for candidates who applied before, contacts them by SMS, WhatsApp or email, and is close to finishing an AI scheduling agent. Dayforce says the sourcing tools have been tested on as many as 30 million candidates inside a single applicant tracking system, and that Ribbon has hundreds of customers and more than one million completed interviews.
David Ossip, Dayforce's founder and chief executive, said "Ribbon accelerates our vision for agentic recruiting", aimed at helping frontline employers fill critical roles faster. Arsham Ghahramani, Ribbon's co-founder and chief executive, said every candidate "deserves a genuine opportunity to be considered".
A young company in a crowded field
BetaKit reports that Ribbon was founded in 2022 by Ghahramani and its chief operating officer, Dave Vu, and raised 8.2 million US dollars in early 2025 in a round led by Radical Ventures. The deal follows Thoma Bravo's purchase of Dayforce earlier this year, which took the company private in a transaction BetaKit puts at 12.3 billion US dollars.
AI screening is a busy category. Our video interviewing software category lists 16 products, among them HireVue's video interviewing tool, and our applicant tracking software category lists 19.
Screening rules apply to the employer
An automated interviewer that scores applicants is the kind of tool that employment and AI rules single out. New York City requires a bias audit and notice to candidates before an automated employment decision tool is used, Illinois regulates AI analysis of video interviews, and the EU AI Act classes AI used to evaluate job candidates as high-risk. Those duties fall on the employer that deploys the tool, not only on the vendor. Dayforce customers that adopt Ribbon once it is integrated will want to know what audit evidence, candidate notices and human-review options come with it, in each country where they hire.
