North.cloud raises $60m to automate cloud and AI spending
15 October 2026: North.cloud, a Brooklyn company that automates how businesses buy and manage cloud capacity, says it has closed a $60 million Series B led by PeakSpan Capital. Litquidity Ventures, Companyon Ventures, Alpaca, Uncommon Denominator, Gaingels and Mana Ventures also took part. North will spend the money on autonomous optimisation across more cloud providers, deeper integrations, AI spend management and larger engineering, product and sales teams.
What North does
North calls itself "the financial operating system for cloud, AI and data". Its software watches a company's spending on Amazon Web Services, Google Cloud and Microsoft Azure and acts on it, rather than only reporting it. The core of that is Autobot, an engine that buys and ladders the long-term commitments the cloud providers discount, so the cover tracks actual use. TokenFlow, a newer module, brings AI model usage, attribution and budgets into the same system.
The round follows North v3, released in August, which added Azure to complete coverage of the three largest clouds and introduced native integrations with OpenAI, Anthropic and Snowflake. North's newsroom shows a $5 million round in June 2025, so this one is twelve times larger.
The company's figures
North says it manages nearly $2 billion of customers' cloud spend and has saved them more than $400 million, with a 98.8% retention rate. It names AssemblyAI, Atlan, Tines, SnapLogic, Emplifi and Imply as customers. Ben Gotthold, head of inference at AssemblyAI, says in the release that the company's "effective savings rate has held steady at around fifty percent" as its infrastructure grew.
Chief executive and co-founder Matt Biringer argues that the rest of the market "still treats optimization as an engineering problem", where North treats it as a business one. Sanket Merchant, a partner at PeakSpan, cites an estimated 30% of cloud spend going to waste before AI and data costs are counted, a figure the release attributes to PeakSpan without a source.
Where it sits among cost tools
Cloud cost tools have split into two camps: dashboards that show where money goes, and services that change the commitments and settings themselves. North sits in the second, closer to a managed service than a report. For a buyer that means handing purchase authority for discounted commitments to software, so the contract terms around who carries an unused commitment matter more than the dashboard.
Founders Form acted as North's legal counsel on the round. Our cloud management software category lists five products and our spend management software category 16. We also list Apptio, a long-standing name in cloud cost management.
