A listing with nothing checkable is shown but not ranked, and positions stay as they are until the January 2027 edition. A firm can move up by adding client reviews or verified facts to its free profile.

How to choose venture capital firms

  1. 1. Match stage and cheque size

Investors differ on the stage they back and how much they write. Check each firm's stated focus against your round, and avoid pitching those who invest elsewhere.

  2. 2. Look at the track record

Ask the firm for named portfolio companies, and speak to founders it has backed, including ones that did not go to plan. Compare what was promised with what was delivered.

  3. 3. Understand the value beyond money

Some investors offer hiring, introductions or operating help, others offer capital only. Ask what support is on offer, who provides it and whether it is written into your terms.

  4. 4. Have a lawyer read terms

Valuation is one term among many. Liquidation preferences, board seats, vesting and follow-on rights all matter. Have a lawyer who knows US venture deals review before you sign.

  5. 5. Check regulatory standing

US fund managers are often registered or exempt under securities rules. Ask the firm about its status and look it up on the regulator's public records.

  6. 6. Ask about follow-on capacity

Ask whether the firm reserves money for later rounds and what it typically does when a company needs more time. Fund age and remaining capital affect how long it can stay with you.
