TrustList summary

The EX5 is Geely's pure electric SUV. It suits a family that wants a well-equipped SUV with a quiet cabin and a long list of driver aids. A separate EX5 EM-i model is listed in the same menu, and this profile covers only the battery-electric car.

Architecture, drive and battery

The EX5 sits on Geely's GEA, the Global Intelligent Electric Architecture. Its 11-in-1 electric drive unit has a peak output of 160 kW, which Geely says real driving conditions may exceed. The battery is what Geely calls a Short Blade battery, and fast charging is supported. Geely says the car has a 67.2 percent space utilisation rate and a cabin noise level of 68.3 dB at 120 km/h.

Seats and comfort

The front seats have a five-plus-one layer cushion with ventilation and heating, and they fold completely flat. The panoramic roof opens in 11 stages and closes automatically when it detects rain. The audio system uses a 1000 W amplifier and 16 speakers, with four sound modes called Recording Studio, Opera House, Concert and Music Hall.

Technology and app

The cabin runs the Flyme Auto system with Hi Geely voice control. A 13.8 inch head-up display shows driving information at 12,000 nits of brightness. The Geely app, on iOS and Android, can pre-condition the climate, start the car remotely, find it in a car park and schedule charging.

Driver assistance and safety equipment

Named features are adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, lane keeping assist, lane change assist, automatic lane change on highways, rear cross-traffic alert, blind-spot detection, evasive manoeuvre assist and a doors-open warning. The car has seven airbags: front, front side, side curtain and far-side. The structure uses eight horizontal and two vertical supports, and the battery compartment is built to keep the cells from being compressed in a crash.

Awards

Geely says the EX5 won gold at the 2024 IDA Design Awards, platinum at the MUSE Design Awards and a Red Dot Award in product design.
