Guidewire agrees to buy London underwriting software firm hyperexponential
Guidewire pays $1.7 billion in cash, plus up to $400 million tied to recurring revenue targets, for the pricing platform used by Aviva,…
London underwriting and pricing platform for commercial P&C insurers, used across $75bn+ of annual premium; Guidewire has signed a definitive agreement to acquire it.
hyperexponential, shortened to hx, makes software for commercial property and casualty insurance underwriting. It started with pricing and rating models and now describes itself as an agentic platform for underwriting work, covering the path from a broker submission to a quote and then portfolio management. The company states that Guidewire has signed a definitive agreement to acquire it later this year.
The product is an underwriting workbench with specialist AI agents inside it. Its tasks include clearance and triage of incoming submissions, extracting data from spreadsheets, PDFs, Word files, emails and images so that pricing tools are pre-filled, enriching submissions with third-party and internal data, and assessing risk against appetite. Pricing is handled by calculation engines that run actuarial models, with a quote versioning and governance record that keeps assumptions, approvals and rationale for audit.
A coordinating layer called hyperoperator runs agents across the submission pipeline, chases missing data and monitors the book, acting only inside authorities, permissions, budgets and review points the customer sets. A Decision Trace records every action, model call and data touch. Portfolio intelligence shows exposure, concentration and drift, and supports reinsurance management and treaty stress tests. The company says its audit approach is designed for regulators including the PRA, NAIC, BMA and Lloyd's, and the platform is meant to sit alongside the policy administration system, which remains the system of record.
Customers are carriers and managing general agents. The site quotes Markel, Markel Canada, Banyan, Novacore and Aviva, and says top global carriers use hx for decisions across more than $75bn of annual commercial P&C premium. Separate pages address underwriters, actuaries and technology teams.
