Nettle raises $4.8m seed to speed up insurance risk inspections
6 October 2026: Nettle, which sells an AI workspace for loss control in commercial insurance, has raised an oversubscribed $4.8 million seed round led by MTech. The money is meant to take the product across the US and Europe and to grow the engineering and go-to-market teams.
Not yet independently verified. The inspection speed-up and the customer names are the company's own claims and are not independently confirmed. The company's release does not say which city is its headquarters beyond naming London and New York. We will update this when it can be confirmed, and remove this note.
Project A, Sure Valley Ventures, Portfolio Ventures and Ventures Together also took part. The round brings total funding to $6.8 million, following a $2 million pre-seed in March 2025.
Loss control is the work insurers do to inspect and assess the physical risks they cover, such as a factory or a building site. Nettle says the problem is capacity: there are more risks to assess than experienced risk engineers to assess them, with backlogs of up to six months at some insurers. Its platform combines remote risk identification, guided inspections, mobile evidence analysis and instant report generation, and the company says it helps insurers complete inspections five times faster. Reports, risk scores and recommendations that used to take days can, it says, be produced in seconds.
The company is now extending the same technology beyond risk engineers to agents and policyholders, so that insurers can collect risk data on sites they could not previously afford to inspect. It says the product runs in the cloud or on premise, with regional data residency. Nettle names Allianz and Brotherhood Mutual as customers.
Nettle was founded in 2024 by Jack Miller, chief executive, and Katya Kinane, chief technology officer, who worked together at QuantumBlack, McKinsey's AI arm, and built AI products for insurance and financial services there. The company is present in London and New York.
"Nettle has built a platform that turns Loss Control into a competitive advantage," Miller said, adding that the round lets the company scale what it has proven across three continents.
Kevin McLoughlin of MTech said top global insurers are adopting the platform, which needs minimal integration effort, and that the founders bring deep experience to an area of insurance start-ups often overlook.
