Legora raises $550m at an $8.8bn valuation as legal AI passes $200m ARR

21 October 2026: Legora, the legal AI platform founded in 2023, announced from New York and Stockholm that it has raised a $550 million Series E led by Atreides Management at an $8.8 billion post-money valuation, up from $5.6 billion at its previous round. The money pays for growth in North America, Europe and Asia-Pacific and for new products on its Legora aOS platform.

Not yet independently verified. Revenue, customer and staff figures are Legora's own and have not been checked independently; its site's summary pages give slightly lower customer counts than the release. We will update this when it can be confirmed, and remove this note.

A long list of public-market investors

Atreides leads, and the new names are mostly investors that also buy listed shares: Baron Capital, Capital Group, Fidelity Management & Research Company, Glade Brook Capital Partners and J.P. Morgan. Accel, Benchmark, Bessemer Venture Partners, General Catalyst, ICONIQ, Insight Venture Partners, Menlo Ventures, Redpoint Ventures, Salesforce Ventures and Sands Capital all came back. Tech.eu, reporting the same day, puts the previous round, a $600 million Series D, about six months earlier.

"Legal is a sophisticated market with demanding buyers, and the bar for software is high," said Gavin Baker, managing partner and chief investment officer at Atreides.

Growth it puts on the record

Legora says it went from $1 million to $100 million in annual recurring revenue in under 18 months and added the next $100 million in under six, so that ARR now exceeds $200 million. Its chief financial officer, David Eckstein, framed the round around that number: "Growth only counts if the business underneath it holds up."

The company says more than 140,000 legal professionals at over 2,400 law firms and in-house teams in more than 80 markets use the platform, and that it now has more than 1,000 employees in 18 offices. The US became its largest market by revenue after its first US office opened in spring 2025, and more than half of the AmLaw 50, the largest US law firms by revenue, are customers. In-house legal teams made up over 40% of new customers in the third quarter, a shift away from the law firms it started with.

What the money builds

The North American offices it names are New York, Denver, Chicago, Houston, San Francisco, Toronto and Mexico City. On the product side, Legora is extending aOS with agentic intake, which triages incoming legal requests, horizon scanning, which watches for legal and regulatory change, and legal research. "The opportunity in legal is enormous and we are still early," said chief executive and co-founder Max Junestrand.

How it sits against the legal software we list

Legora is sold as one platform for drafting, review and research rather than as a point tool, and Tech.eu names Harvey as its closest rival. The narrower tools it competes with are well represented in our catalogue: our legal research software category lists 12 products and our legal document management category 11. Firms comparing a platform of this size with those tools will want to see how much of the work stays inside their existing document system.
