Nutanix co-founder's Different launches with $48m for AI-run demand gen

20 October 2026: Different, a company building an AI system that runs B2B demand generation from target accounts to live campaigns, has come out of stealth with $48 million in funding led by General Catalyst, with Lightspeed Venture Partners taking part. Its chief executive and co-founder Ajeet Singh previously co-founded the infrastructure company Nutanix and the analytics company ThoughtSpot.

Not yet independently verified. Different does not name the round's stage or how it will spend the money; press listings call it a seed round. The customer results are those Different and its customers state. We will update this when it can be confirmed, and remove this note.

Why a founder of two data companies turned to marketing

Singh's launch post describes the problem from his own time running those companies: "doing more marketing meant hiring more specialists and buying more tools". Every campaign idea had to be carried by hand through each channel and handoff, and teams often moved on before they learned what had worked. Different's bet is that an AI system can let a small team run the volume of programmes a large department used to need.

He is building it with Abhishek Pani, who has worked in marketing, data and AI for more than two decades, and Abhinav Yajurvedi, who has led teams building large marketing and commerce systems. The company hires in San Francisco and Bangalore, and Singh thanks Hemant Taneja and the General Catalyst team for backing it "at every step". The post says the system was refined with early customers for a year before launch.

Who decides and what the system does

Different splits the work along a line that marketing leaders can hold it to:

  • marketers set goals; the system proposes accounts, segments, personas and messaging angles for approval
  • marketers set budget and brand limits; the system keeps every asset and every dollar inside them
  • marketers approve campaigns; the system builds ads, emails and landing pages personalised by account, persona and industry, then launches them
  • marketers choose the next move; the system recommends changes to budget, messaging and offers from the results

Behind that, the company lists what it thinks such a system needs: shared memory of preferences and results by channel and segment, two-way integrations with ad platforms, email tools and the CRM, handling for rejected ads or a budget spending too fast, evaluations before any change ships, and guardrails at every step.

The customer numbers it puts forward

Different says two people at Descope run up to seven programmes at once across LinkedIn, email and landing pages, reaching 2,800 target accounts, and found 60% of paid spend going to poor targeting and moved it. "Different has helped us be very surgical about what message we deliver to our target segments," said Abhishek Iyer, Descope's senior director of marketing. At Motif, it says, the same three-person team went from one campaign at a time to more than a dozen across four channels in a month.

Buyers comparing it with the tools it would replace will find it closest to account-based marketing platforms, which pick target accounts but leave the creative and launch to people; our account-based marketing software category lists seven products.
