Maggioli Group takes 20% of Turin clinical AI start-up DatAIMed
22 October 2026: Gruppo Maggioli, an Italian software group with an established presence in the country's public health authorities, has taken a 20% stake in DatAIMed, a Turin start-up that answers clinicians' questions with summaries tied to verifiable sources. The stake comes through a capital increase, which Startupbusiness puts at €1.2 million in total. Maggioli calls it an industrial move that strengthens its growth in digital health.
Not yet independently verified. Maggioli's release gives the 20% stake but not the amount; the €1.2 million total comes from Startupbusiness, and we could not reach DatAIMed's own site to confirm it. We will update this when it can be confirmed, and remove this note.
What DatAIMed does
A doctor, researcher or other health professional asks a question in natural language and gets a summary in which every statement links to a source that can be opened and checked. The platform searches international biomedical literature and Italian and European institutional sources, naming the European Medicines Agency, the Italian Medicines Agency AIFA and the National Guidelines System of the Istituto Superiore di Sanità, and it can search a hospital's own care pathways, protocols and procedures in the same way. It is also used for continuing medical education.
The company presents it as an information and bibliographic tool: it does not make diagnoses or give treatment recommendations, leaving the clinical decision to the doctor. Its infrastructure and data stay in the European Union, it says it complies with the GDPR, and customer data is not used to train its models. DatAIMed says it has more than 13,000 registered users, is used by health authorities, research hospitals (IRCCS) and clinics in Italy, and that 99.86% of the citations it produces can be verified.
DatAIMed was founded by Dario Taborelli, a 27-year-old physiotherapist turned researcher, and grew out of I3P, the Politecnico di Torino's incubator.
Where it fits in Maggioli's health portfolio
Maggioli already sells software to Italian public health bodies, and the release names three products: Auxilium, which manages aids and devices for local health authorities; ICARO Evo, for social, social-care and community services; and OPERA, which supports chronic patients in taking their treatment at home. DatAIMed takes the group's offer from the community and the patient's home into clinical work inside hospitals.
"Per il nostro Gruppo è un passo coerente con un percorso di crescita nella Digital Health che consideriamo centrale per i prossimi anni," said Paolo Maggioli, president and chief executive of the group: a step consistent with growth in digital health that it sees as central for the coming years. He also stressed that AI can enter a field as sensitive as healthcare "in modo etico, sicuro e controllato", ethically, safely and under control, with full protection of sensitive data.
A minority stake, not a takeover
At 20%, Maggioli becomes a significant shareholder rather than an owner, and the release does not say whether it has board seats or options on more of the company, or who else took part in the capital increase. Maggioli describes the deal as an investment in the talent of young Italian companies as well as in its own digital health strategy. Our hospital management software category lists 13 products and our electronic medical records category 5.
