Coveo buys Anglera to fill gaps in ecommerce product data
29 October 2026: Coveo, the Montreal search and recommendations company listed on the Toronto Stock Exchange, has acquired Anglera, a San Francisco start-up backed by Y Combinator that uses AI agents to fill in missing product attributes from manufacturers' spec sheets, PDFs and images. Terms were not disclosed. Anglera's customers, which Coveo says include several Fortune 500 companies, stay on the Anglera platform, and Coveo Commerce customers can buy the enrichment as an add-on.
Not yet independently verified. This rests on Coveo's own release. The traffic figures come from a single test Anglera ran itself, and the price and Anglera's size have not been disclosed. We will update this when it can be confirmed, and remove this note.
Search is only as good as the catalogue
Coveo's case for the deal is that the products with the most complete data are the ones search engines and AI assistants find. Its release quotes a NielsenIQ estimate that missing attributes such as dimensions, materials and compatibility can cut a product's discoverability by up to 30%. Coveo sells the search side; Anglera works on the catalogue.
Anglera's engine reads manufacturer material, standardises the details against each customer's catalogue rules and validates them, keeping a reference to the source of every attribute. It was built for catalogues with hundreds of technical attributes per product, the kind found in industrial distribution as much as in retail. "We built an engine that reads those sources the way an expert would and ties every attribute back to where it came from," said Ray Iyer, Anglera's co-founder.
Anglera reports that in a 30-day A/B test with an apparel retailer, about 300 product variants with enriched data saw a 120% rise in organic landing-page traffic and a 270% rise in visits referred by AI assistants against a control group. Coveo's footnote says the figures are Anglera's own and that results may vary.
Why Coveo did not build it
Peter Curran, Coveo's chief product officer, said the company "evaluated Anglera against an internal build and a broad range of product enrichment technologies" before buying. His argument for Anglera is that it grounds generated product information in several authoritative sources rather than relying mainly on images or scraping, which he says reduces guesswork and invented details.
The plan the companies describe is a loop: searches that fail, or attributes buyers keep asking for, point to gaps in the catalogue; Anglera fills them; Coveo measures the effect on discovery and conversion. "Anglera enriches data at the source, and Coveo connects it to what buyers are looking for," said Laurent Simoneau, Coveo's chief executive and co-founder.
The founders and what comes next
Anglera was founded by Amay Aggarwal and Ray Iyer, Stanford graduates who previously scaled catalogue AI systems at Uber Eats. It serves customers in the US, Canada and Europe. Coveo announced the deal on the same day it reported its second-quarter results for fiscal 2027, and the founders will appear with Coveo at B2B eCommerce World Americas in Indianapolis on 2 and 3 November.
We list Coveo, and our enterprise search category lists 19 products.
