Microsoft ends AI Builder seeded credits on 1 November; Copilot Credits take over
26 October 2026: From 1 November 2026, new and renewed Power Platform and Dynamics 365 licences no longer come with AI Builder credits, and the AI Builder capacity add-on reaches end of life. AI Builder runs, the document processing, prediction and text features inside Power Apps and Power Automate, will draw on Copilot Credits instead. Microsoft repeated the change in a Message Center reminder on 26 October.
Not yet independently verified. Microsoft's Learn page is the primary source; we read the Message Center notice MC1526652 only through a public mirror, because Microsoft's own copy needs an admin sign-in. We will update this when it can be confirmed, and remove this note.
The features themselves stay. What changes is the currency they are paid in, and what happens when it runs out.
What stops on 1 November
Microsoft's licensing page says "seeded credits will be removed on November 1, 2026". Until now each licence carried an allowance:
- Power Apps Premium: 500 credits per licence
- Power Apps per app: 250
- Power Automate Premium and Process: 5,000 each
- Dynamics 365 Finance and Operations apps: 20,000
Credits already seeded on a current licence are honoured to the end of its term, and credits from an active add-on contract can be used until that contract ends. Existing customers could renew or buy more add-ons until 1 November; new customers have had to buy Copilot Credits since sales of the add-on to them stopped in November 2025. Credits do not convert automatically from one type to the other, and Microsoft says the Copilot Credit rate varies by AI Builder capability.
What happens when credits run out
AI Builder never charges for overage. When a tenant uses up its AI Builder credits, the system tries Copilot Credits; if there are none, the flow or app fails with an EntitlementNotAvailable or QuotaExceeded error. For an invoice-processing flow that runs unattended overnight, that means documents waiting in a queue rather than a bill.
Steps for Power Platform administrators
The Message Center notice lists the practical steps: turn off auto-renewal of AI Builder add-ons that will no longer be used, download the AI Builder consumption report from the Power Platform admin centre (Licensing, then Capacity add-ons) to see which environments depend on seeded credits, watch AI Builder activity in the Automation Center, and buy Copilot Credits before the existing entitlements lapse.
Tenants whose AI Builder use rests entirely on seeded credits are the ones to check first, because renewals after 1 November will arrive with nothing to draw on. Microsoft Power Automate is one of 20 products in our robotic process automation category.
