China's market regulator had already opened a defect investigation when the plan was filed. The cars span more than seven years of production, and the fix is a dealer software upgrade.

Porsche recalls 18,274 Cayennes in China over reversing camera software

6 November 2026: Porsche's China sales company is recalling 18,274 imported Cayenne cars because a fault in the parking-assist software can stop the rear camera image appearing on the multimedia screen. China's market regulator says the recall came after it opened a defect investigation, and dealers will upgrade the software free of charge.

Not yet independently verified. This rests on the notice from China's State Administration for Market Regulation, read in Chinese and translated by us. We have not seen a Porsche statement, and the notice does not say whether cars outside China are affected. We will update this when it can be confirmed, and remove this note.

A software deviation that blanks the rear view

The filing, recall number S2026M0136I, takes effect immediately and covers Cayenne series cars built between 22 November 2017 and 27 May 2025. The notice describes a deviation in the parking-assist system software. When it occurs, the camera picture may not reach the screen, which cuts the driver's view when reversing and raises the risk of a collision.

The notice does not split the cars by engine type or model year, and it gives no count of incidents.

An investigation came first

One sentence sets this notice apart from a routine filing. It says the recall "was carried out while" the State Administration for Market Regulation had started a defect investigation (our translation). The regulator does not say what prompted the investigation or when it began.

The other notices in our round-up of this week's China recalls, from Volkswagen, Mercedes-Benz and Chery, carry no such line.

Dealer visit, not an over-the-air update

Authorised dealers will carry out the upgrade, and the notice does not mention an over-the-air route. That is a practical difference from GM's brake software recall in the United States, where the regulator's record allows the update either way.

Porsche China will contact owners by text message and phone. Its free customer line is 400-820-5911, and the regulator's recall centre offers a lookup by vehicle identification number.

One 911 joins an older recall

A second filing in the same notice, S2026M0137V, covers a single 911 built on 22 August 2024. Its central-lock wheel fastener may be damaged, which could let a wheel come off and reduce steering control. Dealers will inspect it and replace parts that are out of specification.

The regulator treats that car as an expansion of the 911 and 718 recalls it published on 15 November and 20 December 2024.

Where Porsche sits in our catalogue

Porsche is one of 52 car makers we list, and the Cayenne Electric is among our electric cars. The notice names only the Cayenne series and does not say whether any electric version falls inside the production dates.
