GM recalls 67,380 electric Cadillacs and Chevrolets over brake software

29 October 2026: General Motors is recalling 67,380 electric vehicles in the United States because software in the brake system control module may cause a loss of braking in certain driving conditions. The US regulator's record names a free software update as the fix, delivered over the air or by a dealer.

Not yet independently verified. These facts come from NHTSA's recall record. We have not read GM's own statement or its defect report to NHTSA, so we cannot describe the driving conditions behind the fault. We will update this when it can be confirmed, and remove this note.

Four models and five model years

NHTSA's campaign 26V717000 covers these vehicles, with no split of the total by model:

  • Cadillac Lyriq, model years 2023 to 2027
  • Cadillac Vistiq, model years 2026 and 2027
  • Cadillac Celestiq, model years 2025 and 2026
  • Chevrolet Blazer EV, model years 2024 to 2027

The record files the fault under hydraulic service brakes, in the control unit for antilock, traction control and electronic limited slip. The consequence is stated in one line: "A loss of braking ability increases the risk of a crash."

The two warning fields on the record, one telling owners not to drive the vehicle and one telling them to park outside, are both set to false. The record gives no count of crashes or injuries.

One remedy, two delivery routes

The remedy text says the module software "will be updated through an over-the-air (OTA) update or by a dealer, free of charge". The separate over-the-air field on the same record is set to false, so the record disagrees with itself on that point. It does not say which vehicles will get which route, or whether the over-the-air update has started.

That matters more to a fleet than to a single owner. A fleet manager needs to know whether vehicles can take the update where they are parked or must be booked into a dealer, and the record does not settle it. GM's recall number, N262570900, is the reference to quote when asking.

Dates and contacts for owners and fleets

Owner letters are expected to be mailed on 14 December 2026, more than six weeks after the report reached NHTSA on 29 October. The affected vehicle identification numbers have been searchable on NHTSA.gov since that same date, so a fleet can check its vehicles now without waiting for the post.

Cadillac customer service is on 1-800-333-4223 and Chevrolet customer service on 1-800-222-1020.
