Finches raises €2m pre-seed to warn buyers of crop shortages

8 October 2026: Finches, a Bavarian start-up that sells sourcing intelligence to companies buying agricultural raw materials, has closed a €2 million pre-seed round led by High-Tech Gründerfonds (HTGF), the German seed investor. Vanagon Ventures co-led, and Bayern Kapital joined as a new investor.

UnternehmerTUM Funding for Innovators, an existing backer, followed on, together with a group of strategic industry and tech angels. HTGF says the money will go to product development and to expanding sales.

The company, based near Munich and founded in 2025, launched its Finches Intelligence platform in September 2026. HTGF describes it as software that combines a manufacturer's own procurement data, such as supplier profiles, acreage and contracts, with outside signals including weather, satellite imagery, news and field reports. It then issues early warnings about supply risks and suggests next steps to procurement teams. The target sectors are food and beverage, pharmaceuticals and cosmetics. According to HTGF, early customers include a leading organic baby food manufacturer and a North American Fortune 500 food group.

Crop data scattered across silos

Finches describes the problem as data held in separate places. Co-founder and CTO Dr Stefanie Glenn said: "The forces shaping agriculture form a highly complex system, and the biggest hurdle has been that relevant data was scattered across disconnected silos." CEO Catharina van Delden added: "European food producers can no longer count on getting the raw material volumes and quality they need every season."

Susanne Fromm, General Partner at Vanagon Ventures, said early bottleneck signals are visible months ahead, "trapped in disconnected weather data, field reports, lab results, and market data."

Who is behind it

Van Delden founded the innovation-software company innosabi, which Questel acquired in 2021. Glenn holds a PhD in genetics from Cambridge and previously worked at Google and BMW. Alexandra Vázquez Bea, who joined in January 2026 as CFO and COO, was previously CFO and COO at Oetker Digital and led the IPO of Veganz Group AG. All three are co-founders.

Weather, satellites and field reports in one alert

On its own site, Finches says it links external risks such as drought, disease, labour shortages and trade conflicts to a customer's own raw materials, origins and suppliers. Each alert explains what the signal means for that business and recommends an action. The site also describes a mobile app for recording farm visits and a shared workspace for the supplier base.

Anna Stetter, Investment Manager at HTGF, said the investor was impressed by "how precisely the founding team understood the industry's pain point."
