Rivian R1S

What it is

The R1S is Rivian's battery-electric SUV, sold in the United States for the 2027 model year. It shares its motor options and trim structure with the R1T pickup, and Rivian presents the two as a pair. Buyers choose between Premium, Performance and Quad trims, which replace the earlier Dual, Tri and Quad names used in previous model years.

Seating and interior

The R1S can be ordered with a six-seat layout that has captain's chairs in the second row. A seven-seat arrangement with a second-row bench stays available on the Premium trim, and on the Black Mountain Signature interior for the Performance and Quad trims. Interior choices differ by trim. Performance and Quad offer Slate Sky Signature, Black Mountain Signature and Ocean Coast Signature, while Premium offers Black Mountain and Ocean Coast. Esker Silver replaces the earlier LA Silver as the standard paint colour.

Performance and range

The Premium trim has two motors, 533 horsepower and 610 lb-ft of torque, with 0 to 60 mph in as little as 4.5 seconds. A power upgrade raises this to 665 horsepower and 829 lb-ft with a 3.4 second sprint. The Performance trim has three motors, 850 horsepower and 1,103 lb-ft, reaching 60 mph in as little as 2.9 seconds. The Quad trim reaches 1,025 horsepower and 1,198 lb-ft. Rivian lists EPA-estimated range of up to 410 miles for the Premium Long Range, 371 miles for Performance and 374 miles for Quad, all based on 22 inch wheels. The company says range varies with tyres, drive modes, weather, climate control use and accessories.
