Universal Robots launches Gen 7 platform with AI-ready arms
The Teradyne company redesigns controller, pendant and tool flange around PolyScope X, and adds three g-Series arms; the CB7 Core…
Universal Robots UR8 Long: an 8 kg (10 kg extended) payload arm with 1750 mm reach and a safety-rated input at the tool flange for hand-guiding end effectors.

The UR8 Long is the UR Series arm for jobs where reach and precision both matter. Universal Robots gives it an 8 kg payload, extendable to 10 kg, with a 1750 mm reach and a 5 m/s tool centre point speed, in a 44.7 kg frame. The maker describes it as compact and lightweight, built for precise linear motion and fast acceleration.
The feature the page puts first is a native safety interface at the tool flange. It is aimed at partners building hand-guiding and teaching end-of-arm tools, and Universal Robots says it removes the need for external safety modules, custom wiring or base-mounted enablers, so such tools can plug straight into the robot's safety architecture.
It matches the UR20 on reach at 1750 mm but carries far less, so it is the lighter choice for inspection and welding over large areas rather than for heavy parts. It uses the UR Series joint design, which Universal Robots says raises joint torque by about 25% and joint speed by as much as 65% against the UR3e, with roughly half the parts of an e-Series joint. The UR Series overview quotes a repeatability of plus or minus 0.08 mm and a footprint of 204 mm diameter for this model.
The UR Series page lists IP65 protection (dust-tight and protected against low-pressure water jets) and Cleanroom Class 4, defined by the maker as at most 10,000 particles per cubic metre of air. Listed applications are welding, material handling and quality inspection. The page mentions long-reach inspection and bin picking in electronics, deeper reach into cells for welding and inspection in automotive, extended-reach welding across large metal parts, and welding, inspection and motion training in education and research.
The g-Series UR10g-1750 repeats the same payload, reach and weight and adds a richer tool flange. The standard M8 8-pin connector is on the UR8 Long, with 12 V or 24 V power.
