Universal Robots launches Gen 7 platform with AI-ready arms
The Teradyne company redesigns controller, pendant and tool flange around PolyScope X, and adds three g-Series arms; the CB7 Core…
Universal Robots UR20: a UR Series cobot with 20 kg payload (25 kg extended) and 1750 mm reach, for welding, machine tending and palletizing.

The UR20 is the long-reach heavy arm in the UR Series. Universal Robots gives it a 20 kg payload, rising to 25 kg under specified conditions, with a 1750 mm reach and a 5 m/s maximum tool centre point speed. At 64 kg it is one of the two heaviest models in the family, alongside the UR30.
Where the UR30 concentrates on payload in a 1300 mm envelope, the UR20 is the one built for distance: the maker describes smooth, high-speed motion control for heavier, farther and more complex tasks. It builds on the usual UR foundation of ease of use and safety. It uses the UR Series joint design, which Universal Robots says raises joint torque by about 25% and joint speed by as much as 65% against the UR3e, with roughly half the parts of an e-Series joint.
The UR Series page lists IP65 protection (dust-tight and protected against low-pressure water jets) and Cleanroom Class 4, defined by the maker as at most 10,000 particles per cubic metre of air. Tapered tubes make the arm and joint housings stiffer, and the LED light ring at the base is programmable, with three default configurations described as complying with ISO 10218.
Listed applications are welding, machine tending, material handling and palletizing. The page links electronics manufacturing to larger fixtures and pallets and end-of-line test cells, automotive to long-reach welding and palletizing across multi-station cells, metal fabrication and machining to high-speed welding and CNC tending, and food and beverage to fast palletizing over an extended reach while minimizing floor space.
The M8 8-pin female connector follows ISO 9409-1-50-4-M6, with 12 V or 24 V power, two digital I/O and two analog inputs or one RS-485 channel. A separate UR20-1750 page lists the same payload, reach, speed and weight for the variant on the CB7 controller, and carries the same feature text.
