Ryan buys Brazilian tax technology firm Comtax to enter Brazil
5 October 2026: Ryan, the Texas-headquartered tax services and software provider, has acquired Comtax, a São Paulo tax technology and consulting firm, and with it gains a presence in Brazil for the first time. The price was not disclosed.
Not yet independently verified. The price was not disclosed. Baguete counts about 200 Comtax staff on LinkedIn while Ryan says nearly 70 will join; neither source explains the gap. We will update this when it can be confirmed, and remove this note.
Comtax was founded in 2018 by Marcelo Simões, Gilmar Brandão and Ricardo Carvalho. Ryan says the firm serves large businesses in Brazil on tax determination, compliance and the integration of tax processes into enterprise systems, including SAP and Oracle. The three founders and nearly 70 team members will keep serving clients from São Paulo as part of Ryan's Latin American team.
Ryan lists what Comtax adds to its global tax technology practice: digital tax consulting, tax determination work such as calculation configuration, rule validation and transaction testing, compliance support, tax-matrix reviews covering product classification and supplier and customer validation, and support for digital-file tax audits.
“Comtax brings a highly experienced team with deep knowledge in one of the region's most complex tax environments,” said Jon Sweet, President of Latin American Operations at Ryan. Simões called the move “an exciting new chapter” for his team and clients.
Ryan describes itself as the largest firm in the world dedicated exclusively to business taxes. It says it has global headquarters in Plano, Texas, more than 7,600 professionals and over 87,000 clients in more than 80 countries.
Baguete, which covered the deal the same day, adds detail the release leaves out. It says Comtax also works with the SAP, Sovos and Gomara brands and lists Riachuelo, Dufry, Magalu, Ambev and Via Varejo among its clients. It also reports that, as far as it could establish, Ryan had a single employee in Brazil before the purchase, hired about 11 months earlier.
The purchase gives Ryan an implementation team in what its own executive calls one of the region's most complex tax environments. Neither source says whether Comtax's existing partnerships with other tax software vendors will continue.
