Top Accounting Firms for Tax

1,026 of 3,121 accounting firms ranked on evidence in the Q4 2026 edition.

Tax covers compliance and planning work: returns, filings, and structuring decisions made ahead of them. Providers range from firms handling straightforward annual filing to specialists in a particular regime, industry or transaction type.

Jurisdiction is the first filter and it is not negotiable — tax expertise does not transfer across borders, and a firm competent in one country's regime is not automatically competent in another's. After that, establish who signs and who is liable, what happens in an enquiry or audit, and whether the fee covers that or is billed separately when it happens. The answer to that last question is worth having in writing.

This page ranks accounting firms that put tax at the centre of their work, from family practices to specialist advisers for one profession, in many countries. TrustList lists 3,256 of them, and 620 earned a rank number in the Q4 2026 edition. Of the ranked firms, 39 hold a professional accreditation, three cite ISO 9001 and two cite ISO 27001. A total of 557 state a founding date, most often in the 1980s (127), 1990s (123) or 2000s (123). Dubai is the most common base with eight, followed by Australia with seven.

Places are set by the evidence TrustList held on 5 October 2026: client reviews, vetting, awards and facts each firm states on its own website, which we read and dated. Nobody pays to be placed. A listing with nothing checkable is shown but not ranked, and positions are fixed until the January 2027 edition. A firm can move up by adding client reviews or verified facts to its free profile.

How to choose accounting firms

1. Start with the country
Tax rules differ by country and often by region. Choose a firm that works under the rules where you file, and ask which local authority it deals with on clients' behalf.
2. Check licence or membership
Ask which professional body or licence the adviser holds in that country and look it up on the public register. Titles such as accountant or tax adviser are not protected everywhere.
3. Ask about your situation
Employed, self-employed, company director, landlord and cross-border cases all need different experience. Ask for examples of similar clients and who in the firm would prepare your return.
4. Understand what happens in a dispute
If the tax authority writes to you, will the firm reply for you, and is that included in the fee? Ask how it handles enquiries, late filings and amended returns.
5. Agree fees and scope in writing
Ask for a written engagement letter showing what is covered, whether the fee is fixed or hourly, and what counts as extra work such as bookkeeping clean-up.
6. Protect your records
Ask how documents are sent and stored, who can see them, and how your files are returned to you if you later move to another adviser.
