Flagship ranking · Q4 2026 edition

This ranking covers accounting firms in Sydney, including chartered practices, tax specialists and bookkeepers who work in cloud software. TrustList lists 91 of them, and 21 earned a rank number in the Q4 2026 edition. Of those 21, two hold a professional accreditation and 20 state a founding date, from the 1910s to the 2010s, with the 2000s the most common decade. Nine give Sydney as their base, two the Sydney CBD, and the rest name areas such as Norwest Business Park, the Northern Beaches, Roseville, Kirrawee and Bankstown.

The order rests on the evidence TrustList held on 5 October 2026: client reviews, vetting, awards, and facts each business states on its own website, which we read and dated. How to choose accounting firms

1. Check the professional body
Chartered accountants in Australia belong to bodies such as Chartered Accountants ANZ, CPA Australia or the Institute of Public Accountants. Ask which one applies and confirm membership on its public register.
2. Ask about tax agent registration
Anyone charging to prepare tax returns or lodge BAS should be a registered tax or BAS agent. Ask for the registration details, and for the person who will actually sign off your lodgements.
3. Choose the right kind of help
A bookkeeper, a tax accountant and an auditor do different work. Self-managed super funds, trusts and company structures need specific experience, so ask for examples similar to yours.
4. Agree fees and scope in writing
Ask for a written engagement letter covering the services, fixed or hourly pricing, and what is extra, such as dealing with an ATO review. Clear scope prevents most billing disagreements.
5. Check software and file access
If you use Xero, MYOB or another package, ask whether the firm works in it and can have access to your file. Find out how documents are exchanged securely.
6. Think about language and location
Confirm where your team sits, whether meetings can be in person or online, and whether staff speak a language you prefer. Some firms serve clients across states, so remote work is often possible.
