SoftMaker Office

SoftMaker Office is an office suite made by SoftMaker Software GmbH in Nuremberg, Germany. It has three programs: TextMaker for word processing, PlanMaker for spreadsheets and Presentations for slide shows. Unlike suites that convert Microsoft files on the way in and out, it uses DOCX, XLSX and PPTX as its default file formats.

What it does

TextMaker also reads and writes OpenDocument text files (ODT); PlanMaker can import OpenDocument spreadsheets (ODS). The subscription edition adds writing tools that draft, rephrase and summarise text, image generation and editing, automatic slide creation from a topic in Presentations, translation through DeepL and grammar and style checking through LanguageTool in more than 30 languages. Each subscription includes a yearly allowance of 1 million translation characters, 5 million characters of generated text and 100 generated images.

Editions and platforms

SoftMaker Office NX Universal is the subscription edition and runs on Windows, macOS, Linux, Android and iOS. SoftMaker Office Professional 2026 is sold as a one-off licence for Windows, Mac and Linux. The mobile apps can be downloaded free. A free version of the three desktop programs is published separately as FreeOffice.

Pricing

On 27 October 2026 SoftMaker's site priced NX Universal at 49.90 US dollars a year or 4.99 US dollars a month. Volume licences were 199 US dollars for 5 computers, 398 for 10, 995 for 25, 1,990 for 50 and 3,980 for 100. Prices on regional pages may differ.

It suits home users, small businesses and schools that exchange files with Microsoft Office users and want a desktop suite on Windows, Mac or Linux without a Microsoft subscription.
