Reddit ends RSS feeds on 13 November 2026 and public API access by March 2027: register apps by 12 January 2027

30 September 2026 — Reddit announced several changes for moderators and developers on 30 September 2026. It will stop serving RSS feeds on 13 November 2026, and public API access will end by March 2027. As TechCrunch reported the same day, Reddit gave scraping as the reason: RSS had become a "common surface for large-scale scraping and automated abuse".

Not yet independently verified. Reddit’s own announcement could not be read: its pages refused our reader, so the dates here come from TechCrunch’s report of it. Reddit has also not given an exact day in March 2027 for the end of public API access. We will update this when we can read Reddit’s post or when it states the day. We will update this when it can be confirmed, and remove this note.

The three dates

• 13 November 2026: RSS feeds end. Reddit recommends that moderators who used RSS for internal alerts move to its Discord Relay app on the Devvit platform. According to the report, Reddit said there is no replacement for other uses of RSS.
• 12 January 2027: developers of approved third-party apps and bots must register them through Reddit’s developer platform. After that date, Reddit will remove API access for any developer who has not registered.
• March 2027: public API access ends. This affects any tool that reads Reddit conversations programmatically: social-listening products, research tools and AI assistants.

Reddit also said it will limit Old Reddit, the older text-heavy version of the site. Access will go to logged-in moderators and to users who have used Old Reddit in the last 90 days.

Who this affects

Reddit is one of the main sources for social-listening and brand-monitoring software, community analytics, market-research panels and some customer-support tools. Some of these products hold commercial data agreements with Reddit. Others rely on the public API or on RSS. From outside, a buyer usually cannot tell which, and the answer decides whether Reddit coverage in those tools continues after March 2027.

In-house teams are exposed too. Marketing dashboards, alerting scripts, research pipelines and internal bots that poll Reddit through RSS or the free API will stop working. RSS ends first, on 13 November.

What to do

• Ask each vendor that reports Reddit data (social listening, brand monitoring, market research) whether its access comes through a commercial agreement with Reddit or through the public API, and what happens to Reddit coverage after March 2027. Get the answer in writing if Reddit data is part of what you pay for.
• List internal uses of Reddit RSS feeds and API calls, and plan for 13 November for RSS.
• Register approved apps and bots with Reddit before 12 January 2027 if you operate any.
• Moderators using RSS alerts should move to the recommended replacement before 13 November.
