AWS closes Chime SDK SIP Media Application and WorkSpaces Secure Browser to new customers from 29 October 2026

29 September 2026 — Amazon Web Services published a service availability update on 29 September 2026 that moves two more services into maintenance and sets end dates for several others. Services moving to maintenance "will no longer be accessible to new customers starting October 29, 2026". Existing customers can keep using them, and AWS says it will continue to operate and support them.

Moving to maintenance from 29 October 2026

  • Amazon Chime SDK SIP Media Application: the Chime SDK capability for building programmable voice applications over SIP, such as call routing and interactive voice response.
  • Amazon WorkSpaces Secure Browser: the managed browser service for giving staff and contractors secure access to internal web applications and SaaS.

For organisations already using them, nothing stops on 29 October. But a service in maintenance gets no new customers, and new accounts in an organisation may not be able to turn it on. Teams planning to roll either out more widely should confirm access now.

End-of-support dates set in the same update

  • AWS Infrastructure Composer: the standalone console reaches end of support on 7 December 2026.
  • AWS Backint Agent for SAP ASE: end of support on 29 September 2027.

The same update also confirmed the end of Amazon Mechanical Turk on 29 September 2026 and set sunset dates for Amazon DevOps Guru and Amazon Managed Blockchain in September 2027, which we covered earlier today.

Why it matters

Contact-centre and voice developers who built on the Chime SDK's SIP Media Application, and IT teams using WorkSpaces Secure Browser for contractor access, now know their platform will get no new customers and should expect a sunset notice to follow. AWS's lifecycle practice is to move services to maintenance before announcing an end date. Planning an alternative now is cheaper than migrating under a deadline.

What to do

  • Inventory where your accounts use the Chime SDK SIP Media Application or WorkSpaces Secure Browser, including in customer solutions built by partners.
  • Enable either service in any new accounts that will need it before 29 October 2026.
  • Start evaluating alternatives, using the migration guidance AWS points to on its product pages and Product Lifecycle page.
  • Move Infrastructure Composer users to its console-integrated or IDE options before 7 December 2026.
