Fragment launches with $56m to put AI agents on procurement exceptions
Investors including 8VC, General Catalyst and A back Fragment, whose Autonomous Context Engine lets agents investigate and resolve purchase…
AI agents for enterprise procurement that investigate and resolve purchase order, delivery and invoice exceptions inside the source-to-pay systems manufacturers already run, such as SAP, Ariba and Coupa.
Fragment builds AI agents that take on the exception work in enterprise procurement: the orders that change, the deliveries that arrive in parts and the invoices that do not match the agreement. Its starting market is direct procurement at large manufacturers, where materials and components are bought across complex global supply chains and fragmented systems.
The core of the product is the Autonomous Context Engine, or ACE. It connects a company's data, systems, policies and institutional knowledge into what Fragment calls an operational blueprint of how the business works. Using that context, Fragment's agents investigate a discrepancy, work out the appropriate next step and carry out authorised resolutions in the systems the company already uses. Fragment's position is that customers should not have to replace their ERP or procurement suite to use AI, and that a deployment can start with one defined workflow.
Fragment works with large enterprises and names Graybar and CNX as customers. It says Graybar processes roughly 3 million invoices a year, 80% of which need some form of resolution. Its own glossary and use-case pages are written for procurement and accounts payable teams. The company says it will use its funding to develop ACE further, expand across source-to-pay and reach more of the world's largest enterprises.
