Sources in Vehicle factsThe Polestar 5 is the performance GT in the Polestar range, for the driver who wants a low, wide four-door with sports-car dynamics and rear seats that are not an afterthought. Polestar calls it its pure performance GT, designed and engineered in-house, and the UK page lists a Performance version and a Dual motor version.
The Dual motor version is quoted at up to 421 miles of WLTP range, about 678 km. The Performance version produces 650 kW, equal to 871 bhp, and reaches 60 mph in 3.1 seconds. An in-house PX2 permanent magnet synchronous motor completes the dual motor package, and Polestar describes it as the most powerful Polestar to date. The UK starting price is £89,500.
Polestar refers to an 800 V battery system, which it says brings more efficiency and more performance. The unibody is formed from anodised aluminium, bonded and cured, and sits together with the battery platform in a bespoke architecture. Polestar aims for as near to a 50:50 weight distribution as possible with a low centre of gravity, and a bespoke braking system. It has not published the battery capacity, DC charging power, charging time or warranty terms on this page.
A single-piece panoramic roof is described as Polestar's longest ever. In the second row, the centre armrest incorporates individual rear climate functions and acts as an occasional third seat when upright, and the seat backs recline for long-distance comfort. Front seat hardbacks use a partly bio-based ampliTex weave made with Bcomp from flax and polypropylene.
Polestar gives a cradle-to-gate carbon footprint of 23.8 tCO2e for the Dual motor car. It says 83 percent of the aluminium for the Polestar 5 comes from smelters using renewable electricity and 13 percent is recycled. Renewable electricity powers the manufacturing plants, including battery cell module production.
