TrustList summary

The DEEPAL S05 is a compact electric C-SUV that Changan UK launched in Birmingham on 26 February 2026. Changan's managing director in the UK, Nic Thomas, describes it as an electric SUV designed to fit into everyday life. It suits a family that wants a mid-sized five-seat SUV with a long list of equipment and a drivetrain choice between rear-wheel and all-wheel drive.

Battery and range

The car uses a 68.8 kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery. Changan quotes WLTP ranges of up to 303 miles with rear-wheel drive and up to 278 miles with all-wheel drive. A Thailand version, the Max Long Range, has a 200 kW motor and a 68.82 kWh battery, with a range of 560 km on the NEDC cycle and a 0 to 100 km/h time of 6.48 seconds.

Cabin and technology

The cockpit is aircraft-inspired. The front seats are trimmed in vegan leather and are heated and ventilated, and the passenger seat reclines fully to a zero gravity position. A 15.4 inch rotating touchscreen sits at the centre, with an augmented reality head-up display, a 14-speaker audio system and wireless smartphone connectivity. The wheelbase is 2,880 mm, the rear boot holds 492 litres and a front trunk adds 159 litres. A remote parking function moves the car in or out of a space using the key fob.

Driver assistance

Seventeen driver assistance systems are standard. They enable Level 2 driving through a network of cameras, radars and ultrasonic sensors, and include a 540 degree surround-view camera system.

Where it is made

Changan designed the S05 at its European design centre in Turin and tuned it at its UK R&D centre in Birmingham. UK cars are produced at the Changan Rayong factory in Thailand, which opened in 2023 as a hub for right-hand-drive markets and sources about 60 percent of its parts locally. In Thailand the S05 became the first DEEPAL model built locally, with production starting in March 2025. Changan says the exterior won an iF Design Award and that the car received a Torino Automotive Design Award in 2025.
