Chief executive Yamini Rangan says the cuts are not driven by AI savings. Product teams move from Hubs to customer outcomes, and severance runs to 30 weeks of base pay.

6 October 2026: HubSpot is reducing its team by about 7%, saying goodbye to nearly 660 people, and will reorganise its product teams around customer outcomes instead of its separate Hubs. Chief executive Yamini Rangan announced the cuts in a message to all staff, which the company published on its own site.

Rangan ties the change to a strategy shift over the past year, from "building software that helps customers grow to delivering outcomes for them with AI". She says that shift is changing product, pricing and how the company serves customers. Three changes follow: product teams will be organised around outcomes such as generating demand and winning deals, each owning the full customer journey; management layers will be reduced; and teams will get clearer ownership of decisions.

She also rejects two explanations in advance. The message says the decision is "not driven by AI-related efficiencies" and is not simply a cost-cutting exercise, adding that HubSpot has grown headcount more slowly than revenue and will keep doing so. Each role was assessed against six criteria, among them strategic need, management layers and spans, and capacity to drive revenue.

The support package, as the company describes it, varies by region with local law:

  • severance of 20 weeks of base pay plus one week per year of service, capped at 30 weeks
  • five months of health cover, through a COBRA lump sum in the US and Modern Health elsewhere
  • six months of outplacement services
  • the option to keep laptops and home-working equipment

US employees were told to expect an email within 15 minutes of the message, and others would hear on a country-by-country basis. Rangan says all departing staff can speak one to one with a manager within a day, and that the wider team will meet next week to discuss the new organisation.
