FPT opens its first African office in Cairo as an EMEA nearshore hub

14 October 2026: FPT, the Vietnam-headquartered IT services group, has opened a nearshore delivery centre in Cairo Festival City, its first office in Africa. Egypt's Information Technology Industry Development Agency (ITIDA) says the operation began with more than 60 Egyptian engineers, and FPT plans to reach about 200 employees within two years and more than 500 engineers over the longer term.

Not yet independently verified. Neither FPT nor ITIDA gives an investment figure for the Cairo office, and the headcount targets are FPT's own plans. We will update this when it can be confirmed, and remove this note.

Gulf clients first, then France

The Cairo team already works for clients in Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and Kuwait, according to ITIDA, delivering software development, AI work, application support and other IT services through FPT's global delivery network. The next step is Europe: ITIDA says FPT plans to expand into European markets "starting with France", which puts Cairo in the same time zone band as much of continental Europe and an hour or two from the Gulf.

FPT's own release lists the centre's focus as AI and data analytics, cloud, SAP and ERP, and embedded software, for banking, financial services and insurance, automotive, utilities, oil and gas, telecommunications and logistics clients. Phuong Dang, senior executive vice president of FPT Software, said the move "brings FPT's AI leadership closer to clients and partners across the region".

What Egypt wants from the deal

The office follows a memorandum of understanding that ITIDA and FPT signed at the Global Offshoring Summit in Cairo in November 2025, setting a framework for FPT's expansion. Ahmed Elzaher, ITIDA's chief executive, said Egypt's focus is "on attracting investments that go beyond scale, bringing more sophisticated technology work to Egypt". He met FPT executives at the agency's Smart Village headquarters before the opening to discuss the company's demand for specialised talent and how its Egyptian workforce could grow.

The ceremony took place under the patronage of Nguyen Nam Duong, Vietnam's ambassador to Egypt. FPT's Egypt office is run by Mohamed El-Saeed as country head and Thang Nguyen as chief operating officer, with Kenan Homsi as FPT's Middle East regional vice president and managing director.

Where FPT stands, and where Egypt sits in our data

FPT reported total revenue of 2.66 billion US dollars for its 2025 financial year and more than 44,000 employees across its core businesses, and says it operates in more than 30 countries and territories. Gulf and European buyers comparing nearshore options now have a large Asian provider delivering from North Africa, alongside Egypt's own outsourcing firms.

Our ranking of companies in Egypt covers 52 companies across three categories, the largest being advertising companies (24) and business service companies (20); it ranks no Egyptian software development firm yet, which says more about what Egyptian firms have documented with us than about the market.
