How this is ranked About this edition

Flagship ranking · Q4 2026 edition

This page ranks app development companies across the United Kingdom, from software consultancies to design studios that also build apps. TrustList lists 271 of them, and 42 earned a rank number in the Q4 2026 edition. Among the ranked, five cite Cyber Essentials, four ISO 9001 and three ISO 27001, with one each as a Microsoft partner, an AWS partner and a professional accreditation. Thirty-three state a founding date, 18 of them in the 2000s. Three are based in London.

Places are set by the evidence TrustList held on 5 October 2026: client reviews, vetting, awards and facts each business states on its own website, which we read and dated. Nobody pays to be placed. A listing with nothing checkable is shown but not ranked, and positions stay as they are until the January 2027 edition. How to choose app development companies

1. Agree who owns the code
Ask for written confirmation that you own the source code, designs and accounts such as app store listings when the project ends, and what access you receive during the build.
2. Ask how work is priced
Fixed price, time and materials and monthly teams each shift risk differently. Ask for a written scope, how changes are handled, and how progress is shown to you.
3. Check security and data handling
If the app holds personal data, ask how the firm handles UK data protection, testing and access control, and whether it holds recognised certifications such as Cyber Essentials or ISO 27001.
4. Plan for support after launch
Apps need updates when phones and platforms change. Ask what maintenance costs, how bugs are reported and fixed, and whether the same team stays on your project.
5. Try real apps, call clients
Ask to try apps the firm has released, preferably in your sector, and to speak to a past client about timing, communication and how problems were handled.

How is this ranking worked out?

The order comes from what each firm publishes and what has been verified about it, and never from payment:

Profile completeness: the details a buyer needs to judge a firm — what it does, who it serves, how it prices, who it has worked for
Earned trust: verification, awards and the other checks a firm has actually passed
Client reviews, where they exist: the rating is smoothed, so one five-star review cannot outrank a firm with a hundred good ones, and volume counts with diminishing returns
