This page ranks accountancy firms serving London, from long-established chartered practices to owner-managed offices that look after small businesses. TrustList lists 58 of them, and nine earned a rank number in the Q4 2026 edition. Among the ranked, one holds a professional accreditation. Eight state a founding date, running from the 1880s to the 2000s, with the 1980s and 1990s the most common. Four are based in London itself, and the rest cite Northampton, Lugano, Whetstone, Clapham or Manchester as their base.

How to choose accounting firms

1. Check the professional body
Chartered accountants belong to bodies such as ICAEW, ACCA or AAT. Ask which one the firm and the person handling your work belong to, and look them up on the body's own register.
2. Ask who actually does the work
Find out whether a partner, a manager or a junior will prepare your accounts and tax, who you will call with questions, and who covers when your contact is away.
3. Match the firm to your sector
Some practices concentrate on creatives, property, charities or private families. Ask for examples of clients like you, and whether the firm handles HMRC enquiries if one arrives.
4. Agree scope and fees in writing
Ask for an engagement letter listing what is included, whether fees are fixed or hourly, and what extras such as payroll, VAT returns or investigations would cost.
5. Look at software and records
Ask which cloud accounting packages the firm supports, whether you keep your own login, and how your records are handed back if you later change accountant.
6. Consider location and meetings
A London office suits face-to-face meetings, though many firms work remotely. Check where the team sits, how often you would meet, and how quickly queries get answered.
