Breaking Ground

Breaking Ground runs Breaking Ground Staffing, an alternative staffing organisation set up as a social enterprise in Chicago. It finds temporary and permanent jobs for people who are enrolled in, or have finished, Breaking Ground's education programmes. Temporary work lets participants earn while they build the skills needed for a longer-term career.

What Breaking Ground offers

• Temporary staffing — short-term workers, letting employers try a candidate before hiring and avoid payroll and healthcare costs for brief needs.
• Permanent placement — candidates for entry-level and skilled roles drawn from a database and partner network.
• Tax incentive paperwork — for qualifying hires, the staffing team completes the forms employers need to claim federal and state incentives.
• Bonding support — guidance on the State of Illinois bonding insurance available to employers who hire people seen as higher risk.

Who it works with

Employers with short-term or permanent vacancies, particularly those willing to hire veterans, ex-offenders or people on welfare.
