Percona Server for MySQL is a drop-in compatible build of MySQL Community Edition with extra backup, security, encryption and monitoring features. Percona develops it and states that the software carries no licensing fee, while selling paid support subscriptions. It is released under version 2 of the GNU General Public License. The server is run self-managed, on premises, in the cloud or on Kubernetes. The current release in the 8.4 series is 8.4.11-11, which the release notes list as scheduled for 20 August 2026. A release in the 9.7 line, 9.7.2-2, was tagged on 28 September 2026. Earlier 8.4 releases were 8.4.10-10 on 30 June 2026, 8.4.8-8 on 12 March 2026, 8.4.7-7 on 22 December 2025 and 8.4.6-6 on 8 September 2025. Percona also offers support for MySQL 8.0 beyond its end of life, which matters to organisations that cannot yet migrate off that version. Pricing for the support subscriptions is not published, so buyers should contact Percona for a quotation. Teams should check the version numbering, because Percona releases carry a suffix that follows the upstream MySQL release.
