MariaDB

MariaDB Server is a relational database released under the GNU General Public License version 2. It began as a community alternative to MySQL after Oracle acquired MySQL, and its founder, Michael Widenius, is also credited as founder of MySQL. The open source server is maintained by the MariaDB Foundation, while MariaDB plc, which lists headquarters in Silicon Valley and Ireland, sells MariaDB Enterprise Server and support. The server is run self-managed; this listing has not verified a managed cloud offering. The latest stable release is 13.0.2, published on 15 September 2026. Other maintained lines are 12.3.3, 11.8.9, 11.4.13, 10.11.19 and 10.6.28. The 12.3 series is described as a long-term release that is maintained for three years, which makes it the natural choice for teams that want a stable branch with a known support horizon. Pricing for the enterprise product is not published, so buyers should ask MariaDB plc for a quotation. The community server itself carries no licence fee under the GPL, although teams should read the licence conditions before redistributing it inside a product.
