Neon is serverless Postgres that separates storage and compute, with autoscaling, scale-to-zero and database branching. The code is open source under the Apache-2.0 licence, and it can be self-hosted from source, but the main route is the managed Neon cloud service. Neon publishes plan pricing. The Free plan includes 100 compute-unit hours per project and 1 GB of storage per project. The Launch plan costs 0.106 dollars per compute-unit hour and the Scale plan costs 0.222 dollars per compute-unit hour, with storage charged at 0.35 dollars per GB-month. Buyers should check the vendor's own website for the current plans and terms. Teams considering Neon should note that branching and scale-to-zero change how development and test databases are provisioned compared with a conventional always-on server. The free plan allows experimentation without cost, while production workloads should be priced against the paid plans. The open source licence also gives a route to run the software independently if needed.
