MySQL is a relational database server owned and developed by Oracle Corporation. It is dual licensed. The Community Edition source is released under version 2 of the GNU General Public License with the Universal FOSS Exception, while Oracle sells a separate commercial licence for MySQL Enterprise Edition. Buyers who embed MySQL in a proprietary product should expect to need that commercial licence rather than relying on the GPL. The server is run self-managed, and this listing has not verified a first-party managed cloud offering. Oracle publishes an end-of-life notice page covering platform support, which is worth checking before choosing an operating system. Releases come in several lines. The long-term support line is at 9.7.2, tagged on 28 July 2026, and an Innovation release, 26.7.0, carries the same date. The older long-term support line 8.4 is at 8.4.11, from 30 June 2026. The upstream source tree shows the next Innovation series under development. Oracle does not publish a price for the Enterprise Edition, so a quotation from Oracle is needed to compare costs with other engines.
