Amazon Aurora is a managed relational database service from Amazon Web Services that is compatible with MySQL and PostgreSQL. It is a proprietary managed service rather than software that can be downloaded, so it is run only as a managed cloud offering, in Provisioned or Serverless form. Billing covers instances, storage and I/O, or serverless capacity units. Serverless can start from a minimum of 0.5 ACU. Customers can choose between Standard and I/O-Optimized configurations, which changes how I/O is charged. The free tier includes Aurora PostgreSQL serverless up to 4 ACUs and 1 GiB, and new accounts can receive 100 dollars of credits. Per-unit prices were not extracted from the pricing page, so buyers should use the AWS pricing page and calculator for current figures in their chosen region. Because Aurora is a service, it has no version numbers to track, and no release date applies. Teams considering it should weigh the convenience of managed operations against the dependence on a single cloud provider, since the engine cannot be run outside AWS. The MySQL and PostgreSQL compatibility helps applications written for those engines move over.
