Windows 11 23H2 Enterprise and Education support ends 10 November

12 October 2026: Microsoft will stop issuing security updates for Windows 11 version 23H2 on its Enterprise, Education, IoT Enterprise and Enterprise multi-session editions on 10 November 2026. Devices still on that version after the date receive no further monthly fixes, so managed fleets need to move to 24H2 or 25H2, or to the newer 26H2 released on 29 September 2026, before then.

The date, as Microsoft publishes it

Microsoft's release information page lists 2026-11-10 as the end of updates for 23H2 for Enterprise, Education, IoT Enterprise and Enterprise multi-session. The lifecycle page for Windows 11 Enterprise and Education gives the same cut-off as 11/11/2026 06:59:59 UTC, which is the close of 10 November in Pacific Time, the time zone Microsoft uses for its support dates. Version 23H2 became available on 31 October 2023.

The Home, Pro, Pro Education and Pro for Workstations editions of 23H2 have already reached the end of updates, so the November date matters only to organisations running the managed editions. The last update the release page lists for 23H2 is the September 2026 out-of-band release, KB5129242, revised on 14 September 2026.

Where each target version stands

Microsoft's release page gives these end-of-update dates for Enterprise, Education and IoT Enterprise:

  • 24H2: 12 October 2027
  • 25H2: 10 October 2028
  • 26H1: 13 March 2029
  • 26H2: 9 October 2029

The lifecycle page shows 24H2 ending on 13 October 2027 in Pacific Time, which is the same cut-off one day later in UTC. Home and Pro users on 24H2 face an earlier date of 13 October 2026, covered in our earlier round-up of AWS and Microsoft retirements.

What administrators have to decide

The choice between 24H2 and 25H2 is mostly about how long the next move can wait. Moving to 25H2 buys roughly a year more than 24H2. Microsoft's lifecycle page also notes that later feature updates may be installed before the listed end date unless they are deferred, so update rings and deferral settings should be checked to make sure the intended version is the one devices actually land on.

Devices whose hardware cannot run 24H2 or later need a replacement plan. One further hardware note sits on the lifecycle page: Windows 11 version 26H2 is the last version that supports devices with Snapdragon 850 processors, so Arm fleets on that chip have a hard stop on the newest branch.
