Microsoft 365 changes: Teams Events’ advanced features need Teams Enterprise, and Purview DSPM classic and SharePoint Page Agent retire

29 September 2026 — Microsoft posted three Message Center notices between 25 and 29 September 2026 that Microsoft 365 administrators should act on. The first reorganises Teams Events licensing. The other two retire features in Microsoft Purview and SharePoint.

Teams Events: foundational and advanced features (MC1479512)

Microsoft is splitting Teams Events into two tiers, with the rollout in late September 2026:

• Foundational event features: available with eligible Teams licences.
• Advanced event features: included with Teams Enterprise licences.
• Teams Premium: the new Teams Premium licence "does not provide Teams Events capabilities".

The limits the notice gives:

Events larger than 3,000 attendees with all engagement features need attendee capacity packs, which go up to 100,000 attendees. Microsoft asks admins to review the licences of Teams Events organisers, and to assign a Teams Enterprise licence to those who need the full set of enterprise event features.

Purview: DSPM classic retires (MC1481315)

Microsoft will retire the classic experiences of Data Security Posture Management (DSPM) and DSPM for AI in Microsoft Purview. Retirement begins in late November 2026 and completes in late December 2026. It applies in the Worldwide, GCC, GCC High and DoD clouds. Admins should find any workflows that depend on the classic versions and move them to the unified DSPM experience in the Purview portal before 31 December 2026.

SharePoint Page Agent retires (MC1481325)

The SharePoint Page Agent, a Frontier preview feature, retires from mid-October 2026, completing in mid-November. Users should create and refine pages and news posts with Copilot in SharePoint instead. Pages and posts already created with the agent stay in place, need no migration, and keep their permissions and lifecycle policies.

Not yet independently verified. These notices were read through a public archive of the Microsoft 365 Message Center, because the admin centre itself requires sign-in; we have not yet found them on a public Microsoft page. We will update this when it can be confirmed, and remove this note.

What to do

• Before your next large webinar or town hall, check which organisers have Teams Enterprise, and budget for capacity packs if audiences exceed 3,000 with interaction.
• Do not assume Teams Premium covers events any longer.
• Security and compliance teams using DSPM classic dashboards should move to the unified DSPM experience now, ahead of year-end change freezes.
• Tell SharePoint authors to switch from Page Agent to Copilot in SharePoint.
