Beff closes ¥750m Series A for battery manufacturing software

Beff is a Tokyo startup with a base in Germany that builds software for battery development and mass production, led by two former Nissan battery engineers.
Beff Inc. (Beff株式会社) is a Japanese software company that builds a platform for developing and manufacturing batteries. It was founded in July 2023 and has its head office in Otemachi, Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo, with a second base in Germany. Its stated aim is to turn the know-how held by experienced battery engineers into data that can be reused when new cells move from the lab into production.
The company's software is built on its own analysis model, Beff Navigator. It brings together material data, cell designs, test conditions and measurement results, so that the path from development to mass-production validation is kept in one digital record and development time is shortened. Beff calls its offering a core system for battery manufacturing, combining two parts: a Virtual Factory Platform, through which Beff Navigator is delivered, and a Real Factory Platform, under which Beff develops next-generation cells with customers in its own laboratory. The system uses process parameters and inspection results to resolve problems during production early, prevent defects, and support ramp-up and yield improvement.
Beff sells to companies that handle battery data, from material and cell developers to manufacturers setting up production. Its release describes the market it addresses as a shift from a few large, low-cost producers towards varied, efficient production closer to home, driven by supply-chain and economic-security concerns, where scarce expertise and heavy scrap during ramp-up are the main obstacles.
The company is led by two co-chief executives. Koudai Nagano worked on electric-vehicle battery development at Nissan and from 2018 on material processing for all-solid-state batteries at Toyota. Shunsuke Amagai worked on EV electrical components and battery packs at Nissan and from 2016 on advanced battery-pack development at Mercedes-Benz in Germany, where he lives. In October 2026 Beff closed its Series A at about ¥750 million, led by Genesia Ventures with Mitsubishi UFJ Capital, Sumisho Venture Partners and JM Strategic Innovation Fund, and says it has raised ¥950 million in total.
