Traversal raises $120m Series B for its AI site reliability engineer
3 November 2026: Traversal, which builds an AI system that investigates production incidents, says it has raised $120 million in Series B funding at a $1 billion valuation. Kleiner Perkins, Redpoint Ventures and Khosla Ventures co-led the round, with what the company calls significant participation from Sequoia and Battery Ventures; Kleiner Perkins and Sequoia both put in more after earlier investments.
Not yet independently verified. The round, valuation and growth figures rest on Traversal's own announcement; its city and its founders' names were not stated on the pages we read. We will update this when it can be confirmed, and remove this note.
A model of the whole production estate
Traversal calls its product an AI SRE, after site reliability engineering, the discipline that keeps production systems running. Two pieces carry it, according to the company:
- a Production World Model, which turns telemetry, code, deployment history and the knowledge that usually lives in engineers' heads into a representation an AI system can read;
- a Causal Search Engine, which tests thousands of hypotheses about a fault in parallel to find the cause.
The company says the work rests on nearly two years of research and engineering by founders who came out of academic research in causal machine learning, and that it formally introduced the product in March this year. Alongside the round it announced a set of launches for platform teams and general availability of Traversal Workers.
The growth Traversal reports
The figure the company leads with is usage: monthly investigations, it says, grew more than 100-fold this year, from 513 to nearly 73,000. It frames the demand in terms of AI-written code, citing figures that 42% of developers now use AI to write most of their code and that unplanned outages cost the Global 2000 $600 billion in 2026; those are third-party figures Traversal quotes, not its own measurements.
The stated aim for the money is what Traversal calls self-driving production, systems that detect, diagnose and eventually fix incidents with less human work.
Where it fits for an operations team
For an on-call team, the promise of an AI SRE is a shorter gap between an alert firing and someone knowing what broke. The questions worth asking any vendor in this space are practical ones: which observability and code systems it reads, whether it needs write access to anything, how its conclusions are shown so an engineer can check them, and what it costs as incident volume grows.
