Open-source, modular business management platform.
Acumatica
New· 7Browser-based cloud ERP licensed by resources rather than per user.
About Acumatica
Acumatica is a cloud ERP aimed at small and mid-market organisations, and two design decisions distinguish it from most of its peers. The first is licensing: rather than charging per named user, Acumatica prices on the computing resources and transaction volume a customer consumes, so adding occasional users — warehouse staff, field technicians, approvers, external stakeholders — does not carry a per-seat cost. That materially changes the economics for organisations where many people need light, infrequent access.
The second is that the application is built on its own development platform, marketed as xRP. Customisations and third-party applications are written against the same framework and API the core product uses, so extensions are first-class rather than bolted on, and customisations are designed to survive upgrades rather than needing rework at each release. A published REST and contract-based API supports integration, and an ISV marketplace supplies vertical extensions.
It is delivered as a set of editions sharing a common core: General Business for cross-industry finance and project needs; Distribution for wholesale and supply chain with warehouse management, replenishment and order handling; Manufacturing for production with bills of material and routing, MRP, scheduling and shop-floor control; Construction for job costing, subcontracts, compliance and field work; and Retail-Commerce for connected e-commerce and point-of-sale operations. Common capability across the editions includes financial management, project accounting, customer management, inventory, and reporting and dashboards.
The user interface is entirely browser-based with no client installation, and the same application is available as vendor-hosted SaaS, deployed into a customer-controlled private cloud, or installed on-premise — with the ability to move between those without changing product. Acumatica sells and implements through a partner channel rather than a direct sales force.
It is most often compared against NetSuite, Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central and Sage products by mid-market organisations, where the resource-based licensing model and the deployment flexibility tend to be the differentiators that decide the evaluation.
