Sources in Vehicle factsThe e.MAS 5 is the smaller of Proton's two battery-electric models, launched in autumn 2025, and Proton calls it Malaysia's first affordable EV. It is a compact car for commuting and city driving, with rear-wheel drive and a 375 litre boot.
Both variants use an LFP battery from CATL, and Proton cites a cell energy density of 185 Wh/kg. The Prime has 30.12 kWh and a WLTP range of 225 km, while the Premium has 40.16 kWh and 325 km. Proton notes that real range depends on driving style and traffic. DC charging takes the battery from 30 to 80 percent in 21 minutes, and public DC fast charging adds over 200 km of range in 20 minutes. Proton lists home chargers of 7 kW and 22 kW for single or three phase supply, and a complimentary 7 kW home charger is part of the launch pack. The e.MAS app includes a live charging map, and its voice control works in English and Bahasa Malaysia to find more than 95 percent of Malaysian chargers.
Launch prices in Malaysia, on the road without insurance and effective from 17 May 2026, are RM56,800 for the Prime and RM69,800 for the Premium. Both have a 14.6 inch display, six airbags and a 70 litre front storage compartment. The Premium adds 16 inch alloy wheels, a 360 degree camera with a 3D view, driver assistance functions, a powered tailgate and LED headlights.
Power goes to the rear wheels through an 11-in-1 electric motor, and the Premium goes from 0 to 50 km/h in 3.9 seconds. The rear suspension is multi-link, and Proton quotes a braking distance of 36.9 metres from 100 km/h and a turning radius of 4.95 metres. A vehicle-to-load function is fitted.
