What the ES8 is

The ES8 is NIO's large electric SUV, sold in 6 or 7 seat layouts, with a separate five seat version listed on its own page. NIO places it in its flagship premium SUV group. The zero-gravity seats and reclining safety system are only on the six seat version.

Battery

The long range battery is rated at 102 kWh. Range is stated on the CLTC cycle, and NIO marks all figures as for reference only. The page gives no charging power, charge time, charge port or warranty.

Driver assistance

NIO Assisted and Intelligent Driving includes NOP+ point-to-point driving, Intelligent Parking Assist, Remote Parking, Drag-and-Park and Power Swap Pilot. The hardware has 31 sensors, among them forward LiDAR, side LiDARs, 4D imaging radar and seven 8 megapixel cameras. Features roll out progressively from the second quarter of 2025, and NIO states the system is for driver assistance only. The page also says some functions may be enabled later through over-the-air updates, without describing a general update policy.

Cabin and safety

The cabin has five-zone climate control, 1.7 square meters of smart dimming glass, a 21.4 inch overhead Mini-LED display and a 38 inch AR head-up display, with the NOMI assistant. The car has 11 airbags and PrimeRide air suspension. NIO says passive safety goes beyond Chinese rules and global five-star standards, but gives no rating.
