MG4 EV

Overview

The MG4 EV is a family hatchback built on MG's Modular Scalable Platform, an architecture designed only for electric cars. MG says the model has collected 40 awards, and the newest version keeps the rear-wheel drive and 50:50 weight distribution of the original while refreshing the interior with the design language of the MGS5 EV and MGS6 EV.

Range and performance

Three versions are offered: Premium Long Range, Premium Extended Range and XPOWER. The Extended Range car pairs a 77 kWh NCM battery with up to 338 miles (544 km) of WLTP combined range and reaches 62 mph in 6.2 seconds. The all-wheel-drive XPOWER has two motors, 435 PS and a 3.8 second sprint. The configurator headline powertrain is 64 kWh with 140 kW. A 10 to 80 percent charge in 25 minutes is quoted for the 64 kWh Premium Long Range on a 150 kW charger, so it is not a figure for the 77 kWh car.

Safety and technology

ADAS is standard and watches for sudden stops, lane drift and blind spots. A new MG Pilot Custom function stores preferred safety settings for each drive. A 360 degree camera is fitted, and all models carry six airbags. The cabin has a 12.8 inch touch screen, a 10.25 inch driver display, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, wireless phone charging, keyless entry, heated seats and steering wheel, and a six-speaker audio system. Boot space is 388 litres, or 1,164 litres with the seats folded.
