MG IM5

Overview

The MG IM5 is a pure electric saloon with a sloping coupe profile and a hatchback tailgate. MG pitches it as a car that combines design, driving intelligence and strong performance, and it is sold alongside the IM6 SUV under the IM name.

Performance and charging

A 553 kW motor, which MG calls the Hurricane Motor, produces 802 Nm of torque and a stated 751 horsepower, giving 0 to 62 mph in 3.2 seconds. The chassis is high-strength steel and the electrical system runs at 800V. MG quotes up to 441 miles (710 km) of WLTP combined range and a 10 to 80 percent charge in 17 minutes. That time applies to a 350 kW ultra-fast charger under standard test conditions, and the company warns that such chargers may be hard to find. The battery capacity is not given on the page.

Driver assistance and handling

The IM Advanced Driver Assist system uses cameras, sensors and radar to spot hazards. One-Touch iAD can park, pull out, reverse and kerbside park at the press of a button. Rainy Night Mode redraws the surroundings, including pedestrians and vehicles, on screen when visibility is poor. Four-wheel steering gives a turning circle under 10 metres, and Intelligent Comfort Stop smooths braking.

Cabin

A 26.3 inch touch screen and a 10.5 inch vertical display lead the interior, with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Twenty speakers, double-layer glass, heated and ventilated seats and a panoramic glass roof are listed. The boot holds 457 litres, and the drag coefficient is 0.226.
