Shape and space

The Sealion 7 is a performance electric SUV with a fastback roofline, a low bonnet and an X-structure front end that BYD calls Ocean X. Tail-lights combine light strips with water-drop dots, and a foot gesture opens the electric tailgate, which has anti-pinch protection. The rear boot holds 520 litres and grows to 1,789 litres with the seats folded, with another 58 litres at the front. Quilted Nappa leather seats and vegan leather trim cover most of the interior, front seats are heated and ventilated, and a 50 W wireless charger is fitted.

Performance and charging

The motor spins up to 23,000 rpm. The all-wheel-drive version covers 0-100 km/h in 4.5 seconds and reaches 215 km/h. Suspension is a front double wishbone and rear multi-link layout with frequency-selective dampers, and the AWD car adds iTAC torque control. DC charging reaches 230 kW, and the Excellence AWD version goes from 10 to 80 percent in 24 minutes. Power from the Blade Battery is delivered through cell-to-body construction, an eight-in-one powertrain and a standard heat pump.

Cabin technology and safety

A 15.6-inch rotating touchscreen sits beside a head-up display, 12 Dynaudio speakers and 128-colour ambient lighting. Four-zone voice control, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay are supported, and over-the-air updates keep the software current. BYD's advanced driver-assistance systems work with 360-degree cameras to watch for hazards.
