Allstate unit Arity agrees to buy traffic data firm INRIX's assets
16 October 2026: Arity, the mobility data and analytics company owned by the insurer Allstate, has agreed to acquire substantially all the assets of INRIX, the transportation intelligence and traffic analytics provider. Arity says the transaction is expected to close in 2026. Neither the price nor any other terms have been published.
Not yet independently verified. Only Arity's announcement could be read; INRIX's own press page refused our request, and no price or closing conditions are stated. We will update this when it can be confirmed, and remove this note.
Driving behaviour meets road performance
The two companies hold different halves of the same picture. Arity describes its contribution as trillions of miles of driving behaviour data, predictive analytics and an understanding of risk, gathered from the telematics programmes insurers run. INRIX brings what Arity calls deep expertise in roadway performance, transportation analytics, products and technology: the traffic speeds, congestion data and road analytics that cities, transport agencies, car makers and navigation services have bought from it for years.
Arity's own pitch for the deal is about connecting the two, so that changes in how and where people drive can be read against road conditions and infrastructure, and so that insurers, businesses and public agencies can anticipate change rather than describe it afterwards. It lists insurers managing risk, businesses moving goods and running networks, and public agencies improving road safety and planning infrastructure among the users it has in mind.
An asset purchase, not a merger
The deal is structured as a purchase of substantially all of INRIX's assets rather than of the company. GeekWire, which reported the agreement the same day, describes INRIX as a Seattle-area former Microsoft spinout ending a 22-year run as an independent company.
For organisations that license INRIX data or software today (traffic feeds in a navigation product, analytics for a city transport department, data in a logistics platform), the useful question is how their contracts transfer under an asset deal and whether the data products continue on the same terms. Neither announcement addresses customers directly, and we would not assume either way until Arity or INRIX says so.
Data owned by an insurer's subsidiary
The other question buyers will raise is governance. A traffic and road data supplier moving under an insurer-owned company changes who holds the data, even if the products stay the same, and public agencies with data-sharing agreements are likely to ask what may be combined with driving behaviour data and for what purposes. Arity's announcement speaks of smarter, safer transportation and does not set out data-use commitments.
Arity was set up by Allstate as its mobility data business. The announcement does not say how many INRIX staff or offices move with the assets, or whether the INRIX brand continues after closing.
